CHANGING
AND UNCHANGEABLE
Estonian Modern
Painting 2016
April 1 - May
22, 2016
The grand old of
Estonian painting has not deemed it
necessary to relate to every wind of change
reaching us from the metropolises.
The transformation of
the means of expression in the work of the
artists is rather a steady, slow and
continuous process, and noticeable only to
the professionals familiar with the
specifics of the field and the art audience
fond of painting. The current exhibition
brings together as different practices and
generations of artists as possible, creating
an intensive landscape of painting on the
principle of contrast or identification.
The exhibition also
includes the artists who, painting on a
project basis, bring new viewpoints to the
art of painting. Since 1970s, the trend of
showing paintings as part of installations
and/or on different surfaces than usual -
works on walls/film, large format works on
paper, painting in symbiosis with video and
light art projections, etc., is noticeable
in the customs of showcasing the art of
painting.
For the sake of the
mental health of the field, the ability to
change, transform, integrate new approaches
as well as maintain last values - let us
call them "unchangeable" here - is equally
important.
In addition to the
members of the Estonian Painters'
Association, the painting students of the
Estonian Academy of Art, Chair of Painting
of the University of Tartu, and Tartu Art
College have been invited to participate in
the exhibition. |
