The leitmotif of the XXXII International Nude Exhibition is the song La Paloma, created in 1861 by the Basque composer Sebastian Yradier, the initial sounds of which began to live in his soul during his visit to Cuba. This song about the white dove is still very popular among our sailors and not only. It is sung both in Europe and America. Performances by Maria Callas, Elvis Presley, Tarmo Pihlap and Jaak Joala live on on the Internet. This legendary song sounds especially gentle in the performance of Pärnu coloratura soprano Aita Kaaver. There are 74 singers’ La Palomas in Valter Parve’s phonographic library in Pärnu! It turns out that the further away from Cuba you are, the more different the lyrics of the song are. From a romantic love story to solidarity between nations.
The white dove has become a symbol of peace and love. Especially after Pablo Picasso created the dove for the Paris Peace Congress in 1949.
Eduard Wiiralt illustrated Alexander Pushkin’s poem “The Gabrieliad”, in which the heavenly father sends the message to Virgin Mary through archangel Gabriel that in 9 months the woman will give birth to the son of God, Jesus. Wiiralt has the angel transform into a white dove, which flies to the Virgin Mary with the precious seed.
The guardian angels and white doves of the great masters have been acting in the blue sky since the Renaissance and continue to do so today. Their miracles are also recounted in the works of one of the most powerful surrealists of the 21st century, the Polish artist Rafal Olbinski. However, these are not sacred images, but rather a warning to humanity that a peace proposal may turn out to be a declaration of war.
In addition to Olbinski’s visions of peace and love, we will also offer doves from artists from Estonia, Ukraine, Finland, Iceland, Puerto Rico, Latvia, and Lithuania at this summer’s nude exhibition. For the first time, our nude exhibition will feature Estonian and Ukrainian children who see much more than just white doves of peace in today’s sky…
